How engagements work Every project starts with a conversation. Once we’ve agreed on scope, timeline, and rate, I’ll confirm the details in writing before any work begins. No surprises. |
A freelance engagement begins when we’ve both agreed – in writing (email is fine) — on the project scope, deliverables, timeline, and fee. This written confirmation is our working agreement for that project.
Payment terms are agreed at the start of each project and outlined in your written confirmation. Standard terms are:
I’ll always discuss payment terms upfront so we’re aligned before I start writing.
Every project includes a set number of revisions as agreed in the project scope. A revision means adjustments to the original brief — not a change in direction or scope. If the project evolves significantly, I’ll let you know and we’ll agree on how to handle additional work fairly.
Good writing starts with a good brief. To do my best work, I’ll need you to:

Your review responsibility Before you publish anything I write for you, please review it for accuracy, brand fit, and compliance with your industry’s requirements. I bring expertise in writing — but you know your business and regulations best. Final sign-off is yours. |
Once you’ve paid in full, the content I’ve written for you is yours. You’re free to publish, edit, repurpose, or use it however you like for your business.
I retain the right to mention our collaboration generally in my portfolio (e.g., “wrote content for a healthcare brand”) unless we’ve agreed otherwise. If you’d prefer full confidentiality, just let me know at the start of the project.
I treat all client information — briefs, strategies, business details, and unpublished content — as confidential. I won’t share specifics of your project with anyone outside our working relationship. I expect the same in return: any information I share about my process, rates, or working methods is for our project only.
If you need to cancel after work has started, I’ll invoice for the work completed up to that point at the agreed project rate. Deposits paid are non-refundable once work has commenced.
In the rare case I need to withdraw from a project, I’ll give you as much notice as possible and refund any payment for work not yet delivered. This would only happen in genuine circumstances I can’t work around.
I write with care and professionalism, but I can’t guarantee specific results — rankings, traffic, conversions, or leads — from the content I produce. Content performance depends on many factors outside my control, including your platform, audience, SEO setup, and how the content is used.
To the extent permitted by Australian law, my liability in connection with any project is limited to the fees paid for that specific piece of work. I’m not liable for indirect or consequential losses — including missed opportunities, lost revenue, or reputational harm.
Nothing here limits any rights you have under Australian Consumer Law that cannot legally be excluded.
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Any disputes that can’t be resolved between us in good faith may be referred to mediation before formal proceedings.
I may update these terms occasionally. The version live on the website at the time of our engagement applies to that project.
Questions about anything here? Reach me at admin@ascentcontent.com.au — I’d rather talk it through than have any confusion.
Q: Do I own the content you write for me?
Yes, in full — once payment is complete. The work is yours to use, edit, and repurpose however you like.
Q: What if I’m not happy with the draft?
I want you to be happy with the work. Revisions are built into every project. If something genuinely misses the brief, we’ll work through it together.
Q: Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. If your project requires a non-disclosure agreement, let me know before we start and I’m happy to sign one.
Q: Do you work with clients outside Australia?
Yes. These terms apply regardless of your location. Payment in AUD is standard, but we can discuss alternatives for international projects.
Q: What if my industry has compliance requirements for content?
Please share those requirements in your brief. I’ll write to them as best I can, but final compliance review before publication is your responsibility.
